Why Encounter?
Our world needs an Encounter with Jesus.
My mind goes to one of my favorite stories in the Bible -- that of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24. After seeing their Lord crucified on the cross, they went home, saddened. It was on that journey that their lives were forever changed through an Encounter with the risen Jesus.
What happened in that encounter? Well, first off, Jesus led them in perhaps the greatest Bible Study in history, Growing them in grace and knowledge of Himself through the Word of God (Luke 24:25-27). What happened next?
Once He revealed Himself to them, they dropped everything to Go and tell others about Him, immediately (Luke 24:33-35)!
This story has been an inspiration to my life, and I think it outlines our desires as a youth group.
The Youth at Emmanuel Baptist Church strive to Encounter Jesus throughout our lives by Growing in Grace and Knowledge in Him (2 Peter 3:18) and Going into the world to share the Good News of His coming (Matthew 28:18-20).
It is for this reason that we are rebranding our youth group to be called "Encounter." Keep your ears out for more exciting news in the future!
